"If I didn’t think, I’d be much happier; if I didn’t have any sex organs, I wouldn’t waver on the brink of nervous emotion and tears all the time" — Sylvia Plath
I read Plath's The Bell Jar several years ago. It's been too long for me to remember details but I still remember the feeling from reading it - that I could identify with the struggles and emotional upheavals portrayed in the autobiographical story; she made me feel that I'm not alone with my neuroses and crazies. Plath is a brilliant writer. Although I'm not familiar with her poems - having read a couple of them and felt they were totally beyond me - I like her prose. And her writing has that sense of 'rawness' to it which I appreciate.
